For the past few months, many have mourned the loss of Dr. Myles Munroe, an internationally renowned bestselling author, lecturer, teacher, and leadership mentor. Dr. Munroe was a dynamic leader who encouraged you to maximize your potential and fulfill your purpose in life.
In his inspirational post, Your Gifts Will Make Room for You, Dr. Munroe wrote, “God has put a gift or talent in every person that the world will make room for. It is this gift that will enable you to fulfill your vision. It will make a way for you in life. It is in exercising this gift that you will find real fulfillment, purpose, and contentment in your work.”
Your Gifts Are Needed
Discovering and utilizing your gifts not only helps you have a more fulfilling life, but your gifts will also increase the quality of life for others. There is an African proverb that reads, “The purpose of life is to discover your gifts; the meaning of life is to give them away.” Your gifts are meant to be shared with others.
Your gifts will make the lives of others easier and more enjoyable. The gifts you possess are the very solutions to problems that other people face in life. Things that others struggle with or lack the ability to do, you excel in doing those same things, with the least amount of effort.
Because your gifts will fulfill the needs and desires of others, they will also create opportunities and open doors for you. When you discover and use your gifts, it’s a win-win for everyone.
There are many people who have not yet identified their gifts. Many people are frustrated with life because they are stuck in jobs they don’t enjoy and feel lost regarding their purpose in life. If this sounds like you, I will show you one surefire way for you to discover your gifts.
The Best Way to Discover Your Gifts
The easiest way to discover your God-given gifts is by simply trying new things. By trying new things, you can gain knowledge of your strengths and natural abilities.
Take a creative class like drawing or photography. Learn a musical instrument. Run a marathon. Participate in a community event. Get involved. When you do these things, not only can you discover what you are good at, you might actually discover your passion for something you had never considered.
For an artist to realize they have the gift of painting, they first have to pick up a paint brush and paint something. In the same way, a person would never know they have a gift for writing until they start writing. I would have never known I had a knack for poetry if I had not attempted my first poem last year. The truth is, you will never know what you’re good at unless you try different things.
A Man Named Pearl
The documentary, A Man Named Pearl, is a perfect example of how participating in new activities can lead to the discovery of your gifts. Pearl Fryar is a self-taught topiary artist who discovered his gift by participating in a yard of the month contest in his hometown of Bishopville, SC.
Fryar, who some deem the “real life Edward Scissorhands,” is now internationally known for his exquisite and lush topiary creations. Fryar had no formal training and would have never discovered his gift if he had not participated in a local contest. Because of his gift, The Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden receives visits from thousands of tourists each year.
I would love to hear from you. How do you plan to discover and/or utilize your gifts this year? Is there a class that you’ve always wanted to take that you are considering taking this year?
