WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems for online publishing. Website owners use WordPress to create, store, manage, and publish their content. Not only is WordPress the source behind millions of websites, it has grown into a full-fledged community of users who provide support to each other. One way the WordPress community comes together is through annual WordCamp conferences.
What is Wordcamp
WordCamp is the conference for all things WordPress. WordPress users attend WordCamp to learn, network, share ideas, and participate in fun activities. The first WordCamp, organized by Matt Mullenweg, was held in San Francisco in 2006. Since then, WordCamps have been held in multiple locations all around the world.
WordCamp is a 2-day event that is organized by everyday WordPress users in local communities. Unlike many conferences, WordCamp is informal and fairly inexpensive to attend. Registration is usually less than $50. At WordCamp, you will attend informative workshops, presentations, panel discussions, and networking events.
When I attended WordCamp Orlando last year, workshop sessions were divided into three tracks: WordPress User, Developer, and Designer. However, we were encouraged to move around to different tracks based on our interests. This was great for basic WordPress users who wanted to increase their knowledge of coding or website development. Some of the sessions that I attended covered topics of WordPress plugins, host migration, blog marketing strategies, and brand development.
Who Should Attend WordCamp
Everyone from bloggers, web developers, web designers, and business owners should attend at least one WordCamp. No matter if you are a beginner or expert in WordPress, you can gain something of value by attending WordCamp. Not only can you strengthen your WordPress skills, you will make connections with others who share your love for WordPress.
WordCamps are held in multiple cities each year. Click here to the view the schedule. Make sure to view the past WordCamps to determine if one was held near you. More than likely, it will be held again this year but the date has not yet been scheduled.
